Where the numbers come from
Everything comes from the System Reference Document 5.2.1 (SRD 5.2.1). This is what each tool takes from it:
| Data | SRD 5.2.1 page |
|---|---|
| Ability score point costs and the 27-point budget | 21 |
| Ability scores and modifiers | 21 |
| Background ability score increases | 21, 83 |
| Spell slots when multiclassing | 25–26 |
| Warlock Pact Magic slots | 71 |
| XP budget per character | 202 |
| Encounter troubleshooting tips | 203 |
| XP by challenge rating | 256 |
| Proficiency bonus by challenge rating | 256 |
| 330 creature stat blocks (CR, XP, type, size) | 258–364 |
How I check them
A script reads every table out of the SRD file and compares each value with the text of its page. If one doesn't match, the site doesn't build. The calculators are also tested against the worked examples printed in the SRD: the three sample encounters on pages 202–203 and the Ranger / Sorcerer spell slot example on pages 25–26.
That turned up one mismatch in the SRD itself: the Archmage stat block (CR 12) says 8,000 XP, while the SRD's XP table gives 8,400 for CR 12. The rules say XP follows CR, so I use 8,400 and say so wherever the Archmage shows up.

Email hello@5ecalc.com with the page and what looks wrong. If it's a rules number, an SRD page number helps me fix it fast.
