      Notes

The 2024 rules dropped the old group multiplier. Every character brings an XP budget for Low, Moderate and High. Add those up for the party, then spend the total on monsters at the XP in their stat blocks. Six wolves cost exactly six times one wolf. The monster list has CR and XP for all 330, and the XP tables page has the budgets and XP by CR on one screen.

Since big groups no longer cost extra, the rules give a few warnings instead: lots of creatures, a CR above the party's level, CR 0 critters, too many different stat blocks. They show up under the verdict when they apply.

Roll picks one to three kinds of SRD monsters that add up to the difficulty you chose, and skips anything those warnings are about. Roll again for a different mix, or pick a creature type first.

Not in the SRD? Type your own monster's name under the list, pick its CR and press Add. It counts at the XP for that CR on p. 256. CR 0 is there twice because the table says 0 or 10 XP. Your own monsters go into the link too, but Roll only uses SRD monsters.

      Mixed levels: add a row for each level. Two level 1s and two level 2s give 50 + 50 + 100 + 100 = 300 for Low.

Click a monster's name, in the list or in your encounter, to read its full stat block from the SRD.

Lair XP: a few legendary monsters are worth more when you fight them in their lair. Tick "In lair" on that monster.

Archmage: its stat block in SRD 5.2.1 says 8,000 XP, but the XP table says CR 12 is worth 8,400, so I count it as 8,400.

"Above High" isn't a rules term. It's what I show when the total goes past the High budget.

Copy link puts your party and monsters in the address, so you can paste it into your notes or send it to a co-DM.
